How to take your internal reporting to the next levelĀ

Every reporting tool asks you to make a trade-off. For years, this implied choosing speed and range of what could be achieved, at the expense of polished, customisable results.
Today, the rise of sophisticated AI tools has eliminated that compromise entirely, fundamentally changing how you can build your dashboards.
In this guide we will show you the reporting journey we have been on with our clients, providing lessons and insights you can take, either to assess the output of your current agency, or if you are building this out for yourself, what to follow for best practices and results.
We are now confident that what we put forward for clients is the utmost best, simplifying actionable steps and personalising everything for them. We will provide a rundown on what makes a difference between a standard and an efficient dashboard, shedding light to what you should be expecting from your reporting.
Why We Started with Power BI
Our team manages ad spend across Google, Meta, Microsoft, Pinterest and various alternative platforms. However, the real commercial value for a business truly appears when you can view all of that investment in one place.
Whilst evaluating performance channel by channel tells you what happened inside a specific platform, a consolidated view reveals what is actually going on with your overall business health.
Power BI was a natural starting point for combining the platforms. It connected smoothly to our data sources, blended the metrics together and allowed us to build a unified reporting layer without needing to build a custom software application from scratch. Likewise, it was easy to share because we could embed a report straight into a secure web page with zero front-end development required. Power BI was achieving our immediate goals for getting comprehensive multi-channel reporting live quickly.
Where Power BI Began to Hold Us Back
The central issue we found with Power BI was the restrictive framework wrapped around the data.
The styling, layout and user interactions of a Power BI report is bound to the distinct look and rules of the software. This rigid structure makes it incredibly difficult to produce an interface that reflects our brand or feels tailored to the individual client. When we wanted to deliver a genuinely bespoke experience, with a highly interactive and tailored dashboard, we hit a clear ceiling.
Historically, breaking through that ceiling required a dedicated front-end developer and building a custom, interactive web dashboard was a completely separate discipline. Hence, polished reporting created significant extra costs and lengthy project hand-offs.
The Catalyst: AI in the Agency Workflow
The arrival of capable AI coding agents removed that technical barrier. By using advanced tools like Claude Code, the specialists who analyse your marketing data can now build the front-end interface that displays it. The full process is now unified into a single workflow rather than a secondary project with its own independent timeline.
We no longer have to choose between a fast, generic report or a slowly crafted one.
What Our New Dashboards Deliver
The result is a new generation of custom-built HTML dashboards that perform far beyond the limits of an embedded frame. They are fully branded, exceptionally responsive and structured entirely around the strategic questions our clients ask.
A single executive report now brings Google, Meta, Pinterest, Reddit, LinkedIn and every other paid channel into one consistent, navigable view. From this central interface, our team and our clients can interact with the data fluidly and:
-
1. Switch time frames instantly
You can move from the last thirty days to week-to-date, month-to-date or year-to-date comparisons without waiting for a report to rebuild. -
2. Filter on critical business dimensions
You can segment data by channel, territory, device, campaign, audience or funnel stage, watching every metric update simultaneously. -
3. See performance in true context
Each headline KPI stands alongside your prior year, prior month and prior week movement so a number never sits in isolation. -
4. Move from the big picture to granular detail
You can drill down from a top line overview straight into individual campaigns, search terms, ad creatives and specific products.
This approach preserves the comprehensive multi channel reporting that originally drew us to Power BI, whilst delivering it in a faster, cleaner, fully branded experience that we control from end to end.
Before and after
The clearest way to show the shift is to look at the two together.
Comprehensive, but bounded by the toolās rules, where a static export flattens the experience down to page after page of tables.
The same data, fully branded and interactive.
Why This Matters for Client Growth
Our clients receive reporting that is clearer, more responsive and built specifically around their business objectives, delivered far faster than a traditional custom build would allow.
Just as importantly, the technical complexity remains entirely on our side. We manage the data pipelines and maintain the interface so that when we sit down to review performance with you, the conversation focuses on strategy and growth in the most efficient way.
By weaving AI directly into our build process, we can provide every client with a platform that is comprehensive and genuinely their own.
